This is the hugely important book relating to the art of Organ Building was published in three volumes in 1855, two text volumes and a larger folio of illustrative plates. This auction is for this single volume which houses volume 1&2, but doesn’t include the illustrated volume.
This book has the number one on the spine but appears to have the first two text parts. The binder obviously bound text and illustrations separately but was complete three parts over two volumes. It has continual pagination to page 1002, the first title page states that it covers part 1 and 2 subsections of part 2. The second title page states that it cover part 2 subsections 3 through to 14.
This book is in the German language.
ConditionBook-The book has survived quite well considering, the leather has some rubbing and marks, with some scuffs and surface loss. There is some edge wear and marks to the boards but generally sound and solid with some light stains and surface marks. The gilt work to the spine area has been nicely preserved with only minor wear.
Internally the book has survived well. The Binding is tight and secure and holding well. There are some minor marks to some pages with some foxing and toning showing in places, some minor handling marks and light corner creases, some tiny historic worm holes are also noticed early on. The rear free end paper has some minor, loss with some pencil notes on the rear end papers.
