4-stop pipe organ soundboard and underaction. Condition is Used.
This is a Hill & Son soundboard c.1880, originally serving a very small swell organ. The compass is 56 notes, and the basses are planted in the middle of the chest as was common practice with Hills. In the 1960s or 1970s it was modified by Messrs Corbett & Bielby of Epsom, one topboard was veneered over and then drilled out to serve a Three-rank Mixture, I have used it since, it’s perfectly good. I did not use one rank of the mixture, hence the remains of masking tape! At the same time, I separated two of the ranks in the bass where they were originally grooved together.
Two modifications worth noting: the extra holes seen in the upperboard are a sensible strategy (by C&B) for minimising runnings. The relatively new pulldown wires are nylon bushed.
The underaction was made by C&B as above, it hooks up easily enough and a nearly full set of pull-down wires will come with it. It is of unconventional design, but I have used it and it works well. Even if you only buy this for the magnets, it’s good deal!

Sharp-eyed regular watchers of this site may feel that they have seen this item before. They have! I ‘sold’ it in November, but since I have neither been paid for it, not had the item collected nor had any response to my e-mails, I have decided to list it again. I need the space!
