eight-stage electric SWELL ENGINE
for a pipe-organ
Until 5 months ago, this swell engine was working well in a pipe-organ in the Nottingham area. This seems to be a “Whiffle-Tree” type, with 8 old-style bakelite chest magnets operating the primary motors.For the uninitiated, a swell engine is used with a detached console. The engine is in the organ itself, connected to the swell shutters. When the organist opens his swell pedal, it gradually engages eight contacts, which send a message to the swell engine to open the shutters by one stage. All this saves mechanical linkages between console and shutters.
The disadvantage……This is one of the larger machines – length 44″, width 9″, height 20″, and quite heavy. Certainly too big to send by carrier. If you live in the North, it is “collect only”.
Alternatively for a buyer living in the south or midlands, then I could bring your order with me when I am coming south; depending of course on current virus restrictions, I should be travelling to Oxfordshire, Worcester, Warwickshire, Hampshire and Dorset over the next 3-4 months.
