The march of time, ‘er indoors and the consequences of covid have resulted in the need to downsize.
This is a terrific little folding organ in perfect working order, which, unlike many older ones, is at concert pitch.
The two knee levers operate on the two ranks of reeds: the 8′ gets a very marked crescendo and the 4′ is activated by the left lever. I guess that it dates from about 1960…so very near the end of fot-pumped reed organs, before electronics wiped them out. With the levers off it is very quiet. With them on, really quite loud.
Stevens made many out of plywood for the Salvation Army, but this is the higher quality one made out of solid oak, and they made far fewer of them. I believe it once lived in a retirement home, where it played the occasional hymn.
Compared to the other organ I an listing, it is a Mini Cooper as opposed to a vintage Mercedes…..each has its own character. Collection only, please, from Ross on Wye.
