Hammond Organ X-5 and Leslie 760 Rotary Speaker

a classic combination, a marriage made in heaven

there is only one way to get THAT classic sound

Very reluctant sale as I have loved this organ for well over 25 years but now I dont have the space to keep it.

The Hammond X-5 is a 1970 Japanese built transistor organ

Upper manual 9 drawbars

Lower manual 7 drawbars

Bass pedals 1 drawbar switchable between 8 and 16

(bass can also be coupled to the lower manual)

As you might expect from a vintage instrument like this (over 40 years old) some of the switches and pots are a bit crackly and temperamental. It could probably do with a service but essentially all works. I recently replaced the TOS (top octave synthesiser) chips and the tune and tone are as good as ever (if not better). Ive tried to show the condition as best as I can in the pictures, a couple of the keys of the upper manual have been broken and fixed. It has been well gigged and has the bashes and scrapes to prove it, but the casing is still solid. A few of the knob caps are missing but the controls are still operational.

This is a portable organ i.e. they put a handle on it! It dismantles to three pieces: organ, bass pedals and stand. Ideally you need two people to assemble and disassemble it.

The Leslie 760 I think is also 1970s vintage

The speaker is 200W but turned up to full volume …it is LOUD! The Leslie has been customised so it will work stand alone, the speed of the rotaries is controlled by a double foot switch. I have always quite enjoyed this as you can have two hands on the manuals AND switch the rotary speed simultaneously. Two inputs on the speaker have separate gain controls so you can have for example an electric piano or guitar with pre-amp enough to bring it up to the same level as the organ. The speaker has warnings on it about being careful not to turn the gain up so much that the horns buzz!…however in my opinion just the right amount of distortion makes one of the best Hammond/Leslie sounds! Again the speaker works but could probably do with a service. The connection of the signal and power (thick 11 pin connection) is intermittent, Ive not been able to find a fault but it hasnt ever caused me much trouble. I would also say that it needs to warm up sometimes before the fast speed will operate (Ive no experience with any other Leslie, so I dont know if this is normal or not but it only takes 5 minutes, so its never really been an issue for me)

Please note this is big and heavy. It is for collection only. You will most likely need a friend or two to help you move it.
