The digital piano was bought new in Mar-13. Only used by my children for a few years for piano lessons and practicing so only light use. Unfortunately none of the children wanted to continue learning the piano and therefore it is no longer being used and it needs to go to a new house and hopefully be used again.
The piano was recommended by my son’s piano teacher when he needed to move to a full size keyboard. It is in a very good condition with only a few marks in the side panels/legs (I tried to show these in the photos but again these are quite minor). The piano will come with all original manuals and if wanted packed in its original box for easy transportation (see photos). Included in the sale is also a few music books that were used by the children up to piano grade 3.
As the item is quite heavy and bulky I am only considering collection in person from Gerrards Cross area SL9 (south bucks). Also cash on collection only.

Why does it sound so good?The sound you hear when you play the YDP-S51 is actually that of a real Yamaha concert grand piano just like those seen on stage in concert halls around the world. The sound of the piano has been digitally sampled and stored so that, for example, when you play a C on your YDP-S51, you hear the C played on the grand piano. But there’s much more to it than that. The sound of a piano changes depending on how hard you play the keys; the YDP-S51 perfectly recreates this effect as you play thanks to its touch-sensitive keyboard. Furthermore, when using the damper (or sustain) pedal, the Half-pedal function allows you to vary the sustain length depending on how far the pedal is pressed and the subtle changes in tone this creates are replicated thanks to the Damper Resonance feature. These technologies, working in harmony, mean that the quality and realism of the piano sound has to be heard to be believed.
Why is the feel of the keyboard so important?A piano must sound good but experienced pianists will tell you that how the keyboard feels and responds as you play is equally important. Some digital pianos may sound good but they do not feel and respond like a real piano. This means that it becomes difficult to control the expression of the music and makes the instrument unpleasant to play. For the beginner this is a major problem because the correct physical keyboard control skills are not being developed during the learning process. A piano’s keyboard is heavier to the touch than a small electronic keyboard or organ because when you play a key you are making a hammer hit a string to play the note. Learning on an instrument with a weighted keyboard is essential if you want to play the piano; otherwise you will become used to a lighter action which will make playing an acoustic piano much more challenging. Yamaha’s knowledge of many years of acoustic piano manufacture has gone into developing a digital instrument which feels just like a traditional piano with hammers and strings. This even ensures that lower notes are slightly heavier to the touch than higher ones – exactly as you would find on an acoustic instrument – so you can learn to play with confidence knowing that you can move to another piano without it feeling totally different. Furthermore, if the player is unable to strike the keys with enough pressure because, for example, they are very young or have an injury, the touch sensitivity of the piano can be adjusted or even turned off completely, something that is not possible on a piano with strings!

This effect is fully controllable and can also be used when playing with headphones.Dual is a feature which allows the player to combine any two voices together so that, for example, you can play piano with rich strings to create a great orchestral effect.Digital Recording and Playback is a great way to analyse and track your development when learning a new song. The YDP-S51 has a built-in two track digital recorder which can record two separate tracks which can then be played back together. Voice selection, tempo and other settings can be changed after recording which makes this a very versatile feature. There are also 50 built-in classical pieces of music stored in the instrument and a music book containing the full score of each song is included. You can even listen to left and right hand parts separately to gain a better understanding of how the piece is written and performed.Duo Mode splits the keyboard into two parts and gives each player the same range of notes.
