VINTAGE 80’s ELKATWIN 61 PRESET SYNTH KEYBOARD WITH RARE SWELL PEDAL, STAND & SCHEMATIC

No Reasonable / Sensible Offer Refused

Vintage early 80’s Elkatwin 61 Preset Synth with the extremely rare Swell Pedal, Stand and Schematic, used but still in good working condition.

Used extensively during the 80’s and maintained during that time, it has been sat dormant for all but a few occasions since then. It has been thoroughly tested and recently serviced. This was a pro use keyboard of its day and as such needs to be connected to suitable amplification, ie: it doesn’t have built in speakers like the common domestic keyboards of today.

The keyboard also has it’s Swell Pedal (which are rare as hens teeth to find). This is an important item with this keyboard as it has a peculiar 7 pin plug that allows Channel A on the keyboard to work. Odd as it is, Channel A does not work without this plugged in. This peculiarity would seem common to all Elkatwin 61’s as I have read postings on the net by other owners that its the way they all are (though some have hard wired them to work without it). The Swell Pedals for these keyboards has a segment on the foot rest that pushes down to one side. This gives a glide effect on the note you are playing similar to that of the glide lever on a modern keyboard. They all have a design problem on the way the segment hinges, that is to say there is no real hinge, just the plastic bending which in time cracks and breaks off. However, this particular pedal had been repaired into a better usable condition than what it was when new. It does now hinge properly and it supported by springs. It looks no different to how it was originally but with the modification it performs flawlessly and will withstand rough use.

Cosmetically its pretty good, although there is a small scratch on the keyboard top left side. The outside of the flight case is marked and scuffed with loading in and out of vans etc, but isn’t in a bad condition considering the places its been. The Stand has been sprayed silver as the chrome was breaking off in places but look fine and still serviceable.

Included also is the original Music Stand and a Schematic, which was bought for repair and service work. This is a most useful and needed item if you’re into electronics or should ever need repair work.

My husband and I were a Pro Keyboard & Guitar Duo and we specifically wanted the facilities of this then new keyboard to complement our act. We travelled from St Helens, Merseyside to Bonner Music in Eastbourne to buy it as this was the only Elkatwin 61 advertised on sale in the country at the time. So why an Elkatwin 61? We played much of the current Pop music at the time and this keyboard allowed us to pan different sections of the sound through the PA rig and the back line. Channel A was panned Left and Channel B Right. With the channel pitch tune slider moved a touch it created a great spatial effect out front. The bass section also has a separate output that we had coming from the back line amps. This was a knockout set up for sound at the time that did well for us.

The keyboard has now become desirable with analogue synth collectors and so it is being offered for sale. There have been one or two of these advertised from time to time, but none that I have seen are as complete as this.

The prospective buyer is encouraged to come and try the keyboard for themselves, you will not be disappointed by this golden opportunity to own a piece of 1980s nostalgia.
