Broadwood Rare Art Case Concert Grand Piano In Decorative Burr Walnut C.1865
A magnificent antique John Broadwood and Sons art case full concert grand piano, made in London circa 1865, serial number 19862. This extremely rare and beautiful piano features highly decorative mouldings to the lid and rim, ornate heavily carved legs and pedal lyre, 85 note good original keyboard, straight stringing, slatted music desk and filigree candle trays. This unique instrument would have been a special edition, made to order buy a wealthy client or as an exhibition model to showcase the firms outstanding craftsmanship.Established in 1728, John Broadwood and Sons is the oldest and most prestigious piano maker in history. Their instruments have been enjoyed by illustrious composers such as Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt. This piano is playable but restoration would be required to return the instrument to original working order. It would also serve as a fine addition for a period property, institution or museum collection.
