This harmonium was manufactured by the famous makers Alexandre Pere et Fils at their factory at 39 Rue Meslay 39, Paris in the mid to late nineteenth century. It is instrument number 4383. Alexandre’s won the Medaille D’Honeur at the Exposition Universelle de Paris in 1855 as a copper plate on the instrument confirms. It was subsequently traded by English agents W Howlett and Sons, Norwich and numbered 538 as indicated by a transfer and a stamp.

There are the usual two pedals for the bellows between which is a foot operated lever for the swell. operated using the side of the foot . There are two carrying handles. The instrument is very heavy. Dimensions approx 1290mm wide including handles, 650mm deep, 940mm high.
Ideal for playing music written for the harmonium with the correct sounds and for use in such works as Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle.
