Acoustic Solutions MK-928 keyboard spares/repair, read description. Condition is For parts or not working. Collection in person only.

I have for sale an Acoustic Solutions MK-928 keyboard which has a number of serious faults and is in need of considerable repair work. This keyboard is considered non-functioning and is for spares/repairs only and priced accordingly.

Faults

– The entirety of the keyboard from Middle C upwards is non-functioning. While attempting to repair the keyboard, I accidentally detached the right-side keyboard ribbon cable from the main board, ripping it from its solder the wires within the cable will need to be stripped back and soldered back to the board.

– The keys from E-2 to Middle C are also non-functioning. This is due to an unknown cause, and is what I was originally trying to fix when I accidentally detached the right-side keyboard cable. The left-side keyboard cable is presumably also loose or partially detached but I’ve been unable to identify the issue.

– The right-most segment of the display is broken. Unknown cause and has been like this for well over a year; it suddenly stopped lighting up one day. Connections look secure. Please see photo; the display should be showing “120”.

– Various control panel LED indicator lights work only intermittently. Their associated functions and buttons still work, it’s just the lights don’t always illuminate. Again, unknown cause but seems like there is a control panel wiring or circuitry issue.

– Keyboard is generally worn out. The keys don’t sit level and many have faults such as a tendency to double-register, register again on release, or sound quieter than the others due to failing touch sensitivity.

– Discolouration (yellowing) of keys from fourth octave upwards due to being in front of a window for some years.

– Battery power no longer works the negative terminal cable is disconnected and requires re-soldering.

Reason for sale

This all started while trying to fix the key sensitivity issues myself. I successfully opened the keyboard and was successful in removing a large accumulation of grime below the keyboard membrane pads in the middle octave, addressing the most serious double-pressing keys. This worked but when I reassembled the keyboard, I found the third F# would not depress after opening it again, I found a large ball of dust trapped under the key which must have got there during reassembly.

I tested all the keys again and reassembled back in the case, only to find the keys E-2 to Middle C no longer functioning, as described above. After opening it up again and investigating, to no avail, the case then accidentally fell back while I was working on it, ripping the right-most keyboard control cable from the mainboard as described above.

Consequently we arrive at the state of the keyboard today. It’s beyond my ability to repair this any further but it may still be useful as a source of parts for other examples of this reasonably popular, if basic, keyboard, and may still be repairable by someone who is adept at soldering and diagnosing circuit faults. The keyboard sensitivity issues can probably be resolved with a good clean of the contact pads, which I successfully started before everything else happened.

What are the good points?

– 61-key (16 of them still work!), 100 voices, 100 rhythms

– Surprisingly good grand piano voice

– Headphones, L/R component, MIDI (traditional jack, not USB)

– 8 percussion pads

– Single/fingered/full chords

– Record/playback

– Basic one-key/follow-me learning of songs

– Metronome, tuning, transpose

The bottom line

I’m not sure anyone will want it but I’d rather it has the chance to go to someone to be gutted for parts than go straight to the tip. Hence this listing. Collection only from Crawley, near Witney, Oxfordshire. To be supplied with original music stand (shown in pictures), power cable and user’s manual. (THE KEYBOARD STAND AND ANYTHING ELSE VISIBLE IN THE PHOTOS BUT NOT MENTIONED ABOVE ARE **NOT** INCLUDED IN THE SALE)
