This piano is an antique, but has a very interesting modern history! It is a Thalberg, made in Australia sometime in the 1800’s. It has a Walnut finish and has beautiful, handcrafted inlays. Circa early 2000’s, it came into the family of York musicians when it was bought by Heather Findlay, of Mostly Autumn. As Heather shared a flat with Chris Johnson in the upper floors of a Victorian terraced house at this time, the piano lived at the band’s keys player, Iain Jennings’ home in South Bank for a few of years. During this time, many parts for Mostly Autumn albums – particularly string, vocal harmony and woodwind arrangements for such as Shrinking Violet, Mother Nature, Hollow, Another Life, Passengers, The Simple Ways, Bitterness Burnt and Pass The Clock, were all worked out around the piano. Even the new arrangements for such as Evergreen, Heroes Never Die & The Gap Is Too Wide on the Catch The Spirit Anthology albums where also arranged with this piano playing a key role.Later, the piano went on to have a spell living in Chris Johnson’s new home for a while, and is likely the very piano which bore the first seeds of swan song, Silver Glass..! Until now, the piano has found itself living in the home of York Singer Songwriter, Chris Helme of The Seahorses, who with his band, recorded the piano on a couple of his albums. Due to building works, the piano now needs a new home and sadly won’t fit through our own rather narrow front door!We’d love the piano to go to a music loving home where it can bring further joy to the lives of its guardian humans!Notes: As the piano is old (and very well travelled!), it has always only tuned up to one semitone lower than concert pitch. With some TLC to repair the damper pedal and a good tune up, the piano will be once again the workhorse we have always known it to be!Buyers would need to cover and arrange their own shipping/courier or collect in person.
