Vintage Leslie Chorale -Tremolo Half-Moon Switch
This is an original Leslie Bakelite switch modified to control the fast/stop/slow function of the rotary effect on Hammond SK-2, XK3 and XK3c, also Nord C1/C2 and Neo-Ventilator Leslie sim (not Mini-Vent)The switch is designed attach to the front rail of the above keyboards using the captive knurled thumbscrews locating in the tapped holes provided for attaching a CU-1
It is identical in function to the Hammond CU-1 switch, but has the authenticity of being made from an original vintage Leslie Switch.This switch is the engraved type of half-moon switch (as opposed to the type with a sticker on)It is simply marked as Chorale – Tremolo, but does have a centre ‘Stop” position(I can supply this without the centre “Stop/Off” position if required – let me know)
The internal wafer switch is replaced with a pair of precision microswitches for greater reliability and a nice positive feelIt is wired with a 1.5m lead terminated with a Neutrik NPX-2B gold plated TRS Jack plug
The switch functions are: Chorale = sleeve connects to tip of TRS jack Tremolo = sleeve connects to ring .. .. .. Stop = no connections made .. .. ..
I have sold a number of these over the last few years, there’s been a few variations: some simply are supplied to fix to the front rail of a B3/C3 or similar organ with Velcro or a simple bracket and wood screws for a more permanent fixing
Unfortunately, the original Bakelite Leslie switches are getting scarce these days.
Tonewheel General in USA supply remanufactured switches which look pretty nice, I believe they are approx $124 plus shipping + import tax and handling + VAT these are really for Leslie “kit” use, so therefore still need to be fitted with a jack plug etc, so that’s creeping up toward 150.00and won’t attach directly to the SK/XK/Nord – only by means of Velcro
