A Unique 1878 Broadwood Art Case Grand Piano With Decorative Oak Finish
A magnificent John Broadwood and Sons art cased cottage grand piano made in London. This very special piano was completed on the 25th of July, 1878 at the companys Horseferry Road, Westminster works and later sold for the sum of 80 15s. The complete authorised provenance of this extremely elegant and distinguished antique instrument is included in the sale. Ornate etchings to lid, fallboard and lower rim, polished brass corner cappings and strap hinges, beautifully carved legs embellished with acanthus leaf decoration and terminating in polished brass castors, straight strung, metal frame, 6 3/4 octaves C-A, original 85 note keyboard, traditional lyre with wooden pedals, slatted music desk and filigree candle trays.
This piano has been beautifully restored and is in fine working order. It was also used during the 2002 production of the Forsyte Saga (DVD supplied). An exceptional period instrument that would grace any property or collection. An exquisite, heavily carved duet piano bench / window seat valued separately at 1,000 is also included in the sale.
