Taken off a Ronisch 1903 (approx) 3 crown upright piano by my grandmother in 1910. Electric light made these candelabra unnecessary, she is reputed to have said, and removed them.
After I inherited the piano from my father, I used it at home for decades, until we decided to sell it through Auction room sales. When I unpacked old boxes after my mother’s passing, several years later, we found these sconces in a brown manila envelope. We contacted the Auction rooms but it was too late to tell our piano buyer, as 12 years had elapsed since we sold it. I recently saw pix of someone else trying to sell an almost identical Ronisch upright on ebay without it’s candelabra, and contacted him, but his piano had originally been fitted with double candlesticks each side, now lost, and he wasn’t prepared to chance whether the screw holes for the mounting plates were identical.
These need cleaning/polishing, and we will leave that to the buyer, as some folks apparently want also to coat these with polyurethane so they do not need cleaning or polishing again. These have had brass/bronze polish on them many years ago but they would clean up to like new.
