Date: turn of last century. It is priced(buy it now) to sell quickly.  We maysend to auction soon where it may well fetch well in excess of 8,000.All viewings accomodated 7 days/week.  Easy andfullest access is at Presteigne a small town 30 minutes West of HerefordHerefordshire. Hereford has good rail links with London. Alternatively there is Knighton station10 minutes away from Northern areas.
Overall, with a full restore in the 1980s and the sound board in quite superb condition,a highly desirable grand piano which could be put straight back intoprofessional use immediately.  A fullbreakdown of condition is submitted below in this listing.  We are sellingthis piano on behalf of the descendants of the Late Ruth Redmond (1932-2018), a pianistwell known in European circles and teacher/philosopher  of Dalcroze Eurythmics movement. Ruth livedthe last few decades of her life in our small, most cultured town, of Presteignein the Marches. (We are also acting as private sales assistant for her house which mustbe sold a lovely townhouse with many original features). Many upcomingpianists have played and learned on this piano and will remember it.  We include a little of her biography at thebottom of this listing, which has some of the story of this piano. Our credentials. My experienceas a semi-professional sales appraiser is as follows: selling grand pianos atthe Hop Pocket/ Pianos Galore and I handled sale of  around 20 grand pianos and several Bechsteins  including one almost identical to this. I was  taught to age the by leg style among otherthings. Many yearsexperience as ebay vendor and retail appraisal and attempt to broker thefairest possible trading.  7750 is inour opinion a very fair price for very quick sale (in fact bargain, as we havefull high st retail premises overheads). PedigreeIt isthought by the family the date of manufacture is circa 1911. This is at oddswith the official Bechstein site https://www.bechstein.com/fileadmin/Bechstein/03_Service/06_Wie_alt_ist_mein_Bechstein/How-Old_2019_CB.pdfwhich pinpoints it to 1889, asit is often said there was a period when Bechstein were out of sync and theirown databased system. The style oflegs and music board certainly concur very early 1900s and  1911 would be latest possible date.Legsoriginal (most date by the legs ..) Has mostdesirable original music desk.We feel a longerterm retail asking price is around 8,500,  and our listing price today is for a quicksale as we need to move on with the house sale.  Dimensions: ToBe Advised Demovideo  – COMING SOON Termsof viewing and sale. The piano issold AS IS WHERE IS however any test any time is possible, and we would welcomeany number of visits to experience the instrument. The piano is located 5 doorsfrom my retail premises that are attended usually 7 days a week and is where wealso live. It is in an empty property currently for sale and is playable /viewable7 days 24 hrs/day with a little reasonable notice.  Conditionand restoration history:A fullrestoration was conducted in the 1980s likely a full replacement of theactions. The piano will hold concert pitch. We assume the keys were replacedrather than renovated. There were new strings and felts. The originalsound board is simply gorgeous with not even the hint of any deteriorationnever mind anything such as a crack. The insides of the instrument are splendidthroughout. Negativehammers slightly flattened as one would expect after an 80s renovation ( atechnician could adjust this  to either asofter or  harder brighter action). We believe theiron frame is original – there may be a small possibility it has been rebuilt. SpecificDefects The music deskrunners are slightly damaged – one side of the music desk runner where it isheld by the  casing  is worn it still slides but is a sloppyfit  (see photo). Both sidesof the music desk have one strut cracked see pictures. The abovedefects are quite possible to repair. Ruth the past owner was known to like herpianios defects left personal to her. There is nokey for the lockThere is a smallpiece missing to the edge of the  lid(photographed) The topsurface of casing excellent, some scuffing around the edges of the casing, andone paint mark at the rear on the side which will remove and repair easily. Wehave not worked on improving the casing as once relocated in its final home itwould be best to refinish in a few places which we think would be no more thana few hundred pounds.  Removaland carriage. At buyersexpense:It will benecessary to employ professional piano removers (buyer arranges) due to aflight of stairs with sharp turn.. we would estimate around 3-500

+++++++LISTING END+++++++follows only:Some biographicalwords from Ruths descendants: Ruth Redmond nee Stewart was my stepmother for 45 years and ather Quaker funeral in a remote rural area of Wales we were so surprised whensome strangers turned up. They represented the international Dalcroze societyand read out messages from all over the world. We were amazed and so happy tohear how much she was lauded in this society. She was one of the early teachers of the method and spearheadedits acceptance into school and music college teaching during the 60s, 70s and80s with Elizabeth Vanderspar (of that exceptionally musical family), she wasalso the Chair of the society. At Elizabeths memorial Ruth got a standingovation but I still didnt realise how important her contribution was. In Poland this summer I was invited to speak at a Roundtablecelebrating Ruth’s life and her valuable contribution to Dalcroze education.she had students all over the world and it was such a wonderful experiencebeing there and talking to people who had been taught by her. Below is my small contribution to the symposium. There wereothers on the Panel who spoke more specifically about her music. So these aresome notes I made…….Im here to talk about Ruth from a personal and family point ofview and some precious memories she shared with us. I imagine you would like toknow more about the music side of things so I will of course defer to my Panelmembers. Ruth lived for her music, it was in her bloodstream. She livedin domestic chaos and wasnt interested in food or clothes or politics. Pictureme trying to get dinner cooked while two young children are running around,Ruth is talking about Schoenberg or Messiaen and more often than notDalcroze. When she met my father 45 years ago she took over my pianoeducation and I progressed more in those few years than any before. I went tomany Dalcroze events with her, met wonderful teachers and even old ladies whohad been taught by Monsieur Jaques himself.  I have 3 little and very short stories Id like to share withyou. There was a Dalcroze demonstration at Goldsmiths in 1912 and1913. Ruth taught there in 1979 (66 years later and I was studyingDrama)In her lecture (which I found a recording of) she talks aboutthe divine moment of hop! Memories of us drama and music students hoppingaround the hall at Goldsmiths. When weve all gone completely mad we willstop says Ruth. We found our Dalcroze lessons were hard work but fun. Also in the lecture recording she mentions M, one of mydaughters. When asked to describe a zigzag mark on her Xmas card M did adizzle dazzle with her body as she said it – kinaesthetic imagination parexcellence In 1968 when students all over the world wererioting Ruth was living as poor as a church mouse in Paris as the scholarshipshe won wasnt quite enough. Letter to her friend, the writer Peter Vansittart, from Paris. My time in Paris is largely spent deep beneath the earthpracticing the piano, also working on my idea of creative ear training toprepare musicians more adequately for contemporary music during this periodshe also had lessons with Mrs Messiaen!-Ruth would play the piano for 5 or more hours a day. Herbeautiful Bechstein Salon Grand always had pride of place wherever she lived. The piano had been owned by her eminent Dalcroze teacher, Nathalie Tingey fromwhom Ruth acquired it. Sometimes musicians would pass by and knockon the door and ask to play with her. Viola, violin, clarinet, oboe playersplus pianists.Musical education Dalcroze  1948-51Guildhall 1951-2Hochschule, Freiburg 1955-57York university 1966-68Played Messiaen and Mozart for BBC radio 3 in 1968. Taught at Bedales progressive school and Guildhall. Playedconcerts in London and Presteigne.
