This is an exquisite piece of furniture with a rich and mellow tone.  Length 214 cm, width 133 c and height 92 cm. The piano tuner said last week it had, relative to many other pianos, kept its tune exceptionally well over this warm summer. It is much more than just a museum piece. The ivory keys are nice and white, but the pedals squeak.  It is tuned to concert pitch. The varnish on the top surface, furthest from the keys, was damaged by the sun before we bought it 12 years ago – see photo close-up. It is straight strung on a metal frame, and was made before Julius Bluthner introduced aliquot strings. It is Serial No. 4102, which makes the year of manufacture about 1862. This beautiful instrument helped my daughter pass her Grades 1 – 8.  A downsizing house move forces a reluctant sale.
