BROADWOOD Cottage Grand Piano. Serial 1653. 6′ x 4’3″ – 6 3/4 Octaves C to A. Straight Strung. This model was in production between 1865 and 1880. I have been in touch with Broadwoods to see if they can date it more precisely based on the serial number, but have so far not replied. But it is at least 140 years old!
I acquired this piano when I was still a student at the Royal College of Music five decades ago, and it has been a much cherished member of the family in all that time. Only being sold now as I have been offered a beautiful Steinway “B” on indefinite loan, and need the space.
