An antique engraved pipe organ draw stop knob marked “Principal 4 feet”, with copper-plate type engraving. -Unusually decorative. The engraving is crisp and clear, unlike the photographs, which come courtesy of an android tablet. The yellowing however is an accurate representation of the colour of the aged -‘pre-1947 natural material’! The organ this came from my old school and, (as I recall now from the late ’60’s), was built by C. Lloyd of Nottingham. It was a very small 3-manual and pedal chamber organ with only about 6 stops on the whole instrument. The sharp keys were of the round-fronted type, which combined with the organ’s poor condition probably dates it somewhere in the mid-Victorian era. When the school closed in the late 1970’s I bought the pipes and found this single stop knob in one of the boxes.
