Heres your chance to allow me to thin out my vintage keyboard collection, and my loft insulation, and for you to benefit from owning a classic bit of 90s kit at the same time! Up for grabs is this Ensoniq VFX-SD in full working order, and with the original factory patches installed. I have owned this synth for the last 5 years, and in that time, it has never missed a beat. Cosmetically, I have to say, it is not in great condition basically, the white printed legends for the buttons have started to peel, and the Ensoniq logo is a little, lets say, depleted But – all keys still play perfectly, velocity and aftertouch work as new, and the keyboard feel is very even and reliable. The display is still legible after all these years, and although a little tatty, as a synth, it works. It looks a little better than when I bought it, as I renovated the case, and had plans to re-apply the legends but time got the better of me. I bought this synth because I play keys in a Genesis tribute, and needed specific patches which were used by Tony Banks on songs from 1991s We Cant Dance (in particular, the brass on Fading Lights, the lead on Jesus He Knows Me and the main pad on Driving the Last Spike). As weve now moved back in time for our song choices, I no longer need to use the synth live although it did come out with me for quite a while, with no reliability issues. In addition, I have 10 other keyboards in the collection, and very little space to actually set them up to play so in preparation for that inevitable point in time where we downsize, I have to make a tough call. The VFX-SD is of course a classic bit of kit with its own unique, quite realistic sound, 10 banks of 10 memories (I know, thats tiny compared to 2019, but this was cutting edge back then.. wed just converted from steam keyboards, remember.) and a floppy disk drive It has MIDI (yes, that really was around back then!) and would be perfectly OK if used as a controller for a modern rig I have successfully run it in this mode before now, and to be honest, the keybed construction is light years ahead of most of todays plastic-based ones. It will come with a printed copy of the original factory manuals, a disk of literally gazillions of patches and editor programs etc., and my personal faith that it will continue to operate reliably for many years to come. As its a big and heavy item, Im listing as local pick-up only, as its safest overall. At a pinch I could deliver within 50 miles of Southampton, for the cost of my fuel. Paypal only please, as again, its safest for both of us. Im not interested in making a fortune, but I am very concerned that it goes to a caring home where it will be loved. Im starting this at a fair price, but would be open to offers just the right side of this so please feel free to make those offers. Good luck and happy bidding!
