Grotrian Steinweg Nachft Model VII No 24682. Hand-built, high-end German Boudoir/Baby Grand (170cm) Piano circa 1910-11 in faded Rosewood. Very pure, noble tone with exceptional clarity and warmth. The brand was first made famous by composers such as Schumann, Liszt and Brahms. In modern times, the Grotrian has been used by artists such as Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Liza Minelli, One Direction, Trevor Horn CBE, Tom Walker, Sir Michael Crawford, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow, Sir Karl Jenkins, Rick Wakeman, Little Mix and many others.
Not overly carved like some early examples of the Grotrian. Equally there is some beautiful subtle turned finishing on the legs unlike modern straight legs. So not only does it have the thoroughbred tone of famous artists but it is also a very elegant piece of furniture in a warm faded colour. Ideal for a seasoned professional or a learner who wants a classical tone from a high-end brand and a very beautiful piece of furniture as well. Being a baby grand or boudoir grand the Model VII fits more easily into a lounge, conservatory or bedroom than a full sized grand being 170cm long, 183cm high and 145cm wide. It still retains the character and elegance of a full-sized grand however and has much more presence as an interior design element to create a look than an upright piano does.
Very good condition for age. Has not been re-strung for many years and would benefit from a re-string if you wish for a bright tone rather than a warm tone. If the original dark rosewood colour is required then it would french polish up to a classical finish. For our use and for the room, we have preferred the warm tone and faded patina. Fully restored examples of the model VII retail for 13,000 in Germany. There are very few examples in the UK.
Comes complete with the original key.
Visits welcome to play, look and listen in a room with exceptional acoustics.
