Built in 1884 (Hagspiel serial number 2534) and fully restored in the early 70s, this has been a well-looked-after and much-played piano, no longer needed because of a house move. It will need a general tuning but it is only a couple of Hertz below A=440 and it has been bang on the money in recent years. It is in good working order, with lovely ornate casing and decorated woodwork. All the keys and pedals are in working order, all the strings are intact, but it is in need of maintenance: the dampers need to apply a little more pressure to the strings, one of the keys is missing its ivory and another is chipped, care must be taken with the lid, stick, and music desk as the hinges are partially broken. Sunlight has brightened the black paint on the corner of the bass end. I learned piano on this instrument from about grade 6 upwards, and the current condition of the piano would be fine for at least the first five grades. With some work Im sure it could be repaired to be suitably responsive to much more advanced repertoire. Quite a light touch, you dont have to work hard to get a big sound out of it. Its a beautiful looking instrument, with loads more detail on the woodwork than youd find on a modern piano, so will look stunning in most settings. Im happy to answer any questions about the instrument itself, serious buyers are welcome to visit and try it out, or I can send recordings.
