Hammond Original Tonewheel Organ with Drawbars and Drum Machine: T500

DescriptionAlthough marked as not working, I have done this because the tab switches have recently become unreliable. This means that sometimes they work and it sounds great: sometimes the sound becomes faint and will return if the tabs are worked up and down. After a few times though, this becomes less reliable. I have cured this problem 100% a few times by taking the top off and using Servisol Super 10 switch cleaner spray an industry standard on the contacts at the back of the tab switches. This cures the problem for a time, but it then returns if the instrument is not played for a week or so. They need a good cleaning and I have no time to do this. Hence the low starting price

It comes with mains lead attached but no bench. Cosmetically it is in pretty good condition with just minor marks.

About the T500 – briefly
This was the last ever tonewheel model Hammond ever made and it dates to around 1974/5. It has a mechanical vibrato scanner and uses the self-starting motor.

It has a full complement of real drawbars plus the 13 note pedalboard. Bass is either 8 or 16
Internally it has the legendary Hammond spring reverb, twin static speakers plus a Leslie rotating speaker unit. It also has a 9 pin Leslie output socket which will be controlled by the rocker tabs to the lower left. There was an addition kit that added a cassette recorder/player to the right of the lower manual. This instrument has never had one fitted.

Of interest to retro electro fans will be the early analogue drum machine. This uses reshaped white noise to generate the sounds. A pretty rare device nowadays [and rumoured to be based on a design by the man who went on to found Roland], it could be a source of highly original analogue drum sounds

Check out the photos for more details of the console.
