THEY WILL NEVER MANUFACTURE AN ORGAN LIKE THIS AGAIN!!!
THIS IS A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO OWN A LEGENDARY 3 SERIES HAMMOND!
Serviced in march 2009, within the last week the RT-3 has been checked over by a talented electrical engineer with years of experience, he does regular work for Grantham Piano’s based in Yelverton, Devon, England and came highly recommended! He thought this was a fantastic example.
*The preamp is in excellent condition, all original Hammond vacuum tubes, the tonewheel also works excellently. The drawbars are all working with good action, the manuals are tidy, as are the felts. The condition is very good for it’s age, however there are a few scratches on the cabinet here and there. I’ve certainly seen many worse examples! I’d rate this as very good condition, but it’s up to you if you decide you would like to touch up the cabinet in a couple of places. I personally wouldn’t bother, but this is entirely at your discretion!
There is plenty of tonal scope to sculpt the sound that you are looking to achieve, this is an incredibly versatile instrument, musical styles such as Jazz, Funk, Soul, Motown, Reggae, Rock, Progressive Rock, Church, end of the Pier!!! Your call. The list is pretty much endless!
THIS IS A SERIOUS INSTRUMENT! WITH WONDERFUL POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS MUSICIANS AND WOULD HAPPILY SUIT A STUDIO ENVIRONMENT. MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE IS THAT THIS INSTRUMENT STAYS IN MY LOCAL AREA OF THE UK AND IS NOT LOST TO OTHER AREAS OF THE WORLD! HOWEVER, I WOULD BE HAPPY FOR THIS TO BE SHIPPED THROUGHOUT EUROPE.
THIS WOULD NEED TO BE ARRANGED BY THE PURCHASER.
IF I CAN HELP I WILL.
*** A HAMMOND PR-40 SPEAKER CABINET IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE AS IS THE 32 NOTE AGO PEDAL BOARD AND BENCH!
…More on the PR-40… Similar to the PR-20, useful additional features on this cabinet are reverb, treble and bass setting for extra sound control. It’s a wonderful speaker in it’s own right, something that I think would sound great for other instruments as well, such as guitars etc… even vocals, achieving a vintage sound only cabinets of this age can. The reverb is a string/necklace variety. The condition is good, as is the sound.
I CAN OFFER YOU A FEW SUGGESTIONS…
Some people like to use a Leslie cabinet with this organ.I can recommend doing so if you are able to source one. In all fairness that is how the classic B3 sound is achieved. It’s also a great idea to include the PR-40 within this set up as that adds to the overall soundscape. A PR-40 can do things a Leslie can’t do and vice-versa. As far as I’m concerned, if this was matched with a Leslie 147 you’ll have the best sounding organ available at a fraction of the price of a B3 ! And for all intensive purposes, this is a B3, just wearing different clothes! The 147 is an unbalanced amp, a ‘growler’ producing a grittier sound, explosive when overdriven, with a heavier bottom end. I should give a notable mention the Leslie 122, another wonderful amp (balanced) for a softer, smoother sound frequently used by jazz musicians.
MORE AMP SUGGESTIONS…
It’s possible to add a 1/4″ line output to the RT-3 and use a motion sound speaker cabinet, such as the PRO 3T, PRO 145 LP 120 combo as they do a good job of mimicking the Leslie 147 sound. Again, this is completely at your discretion!
BACK TO THE HAMMOND RT-3!
The Hammond RT-3 tonewheel organ was produced between 1955 to 1973. Internally and electronically the same as the much famed Hammond B3 and is a classic in it’s own right.
In a larger church/concert style cabinet the RT-3 sounds identical to the B3 but with some extras! An added bonus being a full 32 note concave radiating AGO (American Guild of Organists) specification detachable pedal board, this produces a tone range from 32′ pitch through 2′ pitch. Also the RT-3 has a pedal solo system that has seperate volume control, plus providing solo effects such as 32-foot bourdon, bombarde (reed pedal sound), 16-foot solo, 8-foot, 4-foot, 2-foot, 1-foot solo, also tablets for mute and pedal on controls.
Like the B3 there is chorus, vibrato, volume soft/normal tabs. The keyboard/manuals are two tier, swell and great with 61 keys each. 9 preset keys and 2 sets of 9 adjustable harmonic drawbars for each keyboard. The pedals have 2 adjustable drawbars (16′ and 8′) with 1 expression pedal controlling swell great and pedals.
If your interested, I’d suggest pasting these links below into your browser!!! Don is flexing his fingers. Recorded completely dry through the PR-40. I ran out of recording time to be able to record it wet with reverb, bass etc… and it sounded even better!!!
I must apologize for any chatter during the recording, and any funny local accents! Lol.
