TheHammond Xk-3 was made by Hammond to closely model the tone of the B3, at a fraction of the weight. It’s extremely near in tone and character. It has tonebar controls like the original, and built in tube overdrive. Unlike the original, it also has the advantage of pitch bend, tone control, and programmable presets which you can set using the black keys at the bottom.
The modeled Leslie effect built in to the Hammond is already fantastic. However, I have combined the keyboard with an original vintage Leslie 820 from the 1970’s which I managed to purchase from a church which was being renovated. Combining the incredible modeled sound with a genuine spinning Leslie takes it to a whole new level. The XK-3 connects using a traditional Leslie cable (included) and is able to control the speed of the Leslie from the keyboard. You will not get anywhere near to this tone in a portable organ, or without a 6k+ price tag.I’ve used the Nord and other modeled B3 organs before. I’ve also found that it’s possible to DI other instruments into the Leslie via the pedal return input on the Hammond, which can create some amazing sounds and tones.
There are some minor marks and damage to the tolex on the Leslie as to be expected of a cabinet of this age – this is purely cosmetic and can be seen in the pictures.
I’m very reluctantly selling this wonderful instrument as I’m moving to LA, and cannot justify leaving such a wonderful instrument in storage. I’ve set a low starting bid as I’m due to move shortly. I hope this instrument will go to a great home and be well loved and played as it deserves.
