An historic pipe organ, perhaps the only remaining house organ made by the important organ builder Samuel Renn. Date uncertain, perhaps 1823, perhaps 1840s. Bought in 1980s from Windermere Methodist church and held in private hands since then. This organ was the cover feature in the May-July 2018 issue of the Organ magazine, with four inside pages of photographs and history.
To obtain a back issue of this magazine visit http://www.theorganmag.com/issues/384.html and email offers@theorganmag.com The Royal crest illustrated is included! During its period in private ownership the organ has been tuned by organ specialists, who also maintain the organ in Stoke-on-Trent cathedral, and it remains in working order. It needs a little cosmetic restoration – the ivory on some of the keys is loose and two small pieces are missing (but there are some spare pieces which could be cut to fit). It is largely unmodified but has had an electric blower added so that it can be played by a single individual. However the original hand pumped bellows are also still installed and still functioning. It can be installed in a standard height domestic room if the upper section housing the decorative pipes is not installed. (As is standard for organs of this period, the visible pipes are purely decorative and are not what makes the sound). For a full installation a height of approximately 4m is required. Buyer to dismantle and collect. Dismantling may not be simple and prospective buyers are advised to contact the seller to arrange a viewing prior to purchase Please contact the seller with any questions or requests to view the organ on site prior to purchase. Please do NOT use the contact details in the article in the Organ magazine – those contact details are for the previous owner of the organ who included it in the sale when I bought his house last year. The white pipes visible in some of the photos are from a different organ but will be included if the buyer wants them and if the seller still has them at the time of payment (they may be sold separately before then).
