The Kawai CA98 digital piano the top of the range instrument from the leading Japanese manufacturer. The aim of the CA98 is to give the most authentic grand piano experience and this is achieved by bringing together five of Kawais most advanced digital piano technologies.
Realistic Keyboard Action
The Kawai Grand Feel II keyboard has become one of the most popular piano keyboard actions available. The long natural wooden keys give the correct balance and weighting that you would expect from a high quality acoustic piano. This allows the player to give an expressive performance and feel a real connection to the instrument. The CA98 is the perfect piano for both advanced pianists or beginners who are serious about learning. The aim of the Grand Feel II keyboard action is to allow a seamless transition between the digital piano and an acoustic instrument.
New SK-EX Rendered Piano Sound Engine
The piano sound in the new Kawai CA98 is vastly improved over previous models and has been created using multi-channel sampling techniques. The core piano voice was recorded using multiple microphones placed at specific positions within Kawais flagship Shigeru EX concert grand piano. This results in more tonal characteristics and a lively, expressive sound. The player experiences smoother dynamic control and improved keyboard responsiveness when compared with regular stereo sampling techniques.
Resonance modelling calculates individual string resonances for all 88 keys and is applied to the sound in real time, meaning that the CA98 piano is responding to your playing style and expression – just like a traditional acoustic piano.
Two Separate Sound Modes
The Kawai CA98 operates in two different sound modes – Pianist Mode and Sound Mode.
Pianist Mode – Use pianist mode for when you want the very best traditional piano experience, using the new rendered piano sound engine. Pianist mode diverts all the voice processing power to the piano engine and allows use of the SK-EX rendered piano sound with multi-channel sampling and 88 key resonance modelling.
There are 10 different character variations of piano available to suit a wide variety of music styles when performing in pianist mode. Changing between the different piano characters is carried out by simply swiping left/right on the touchscreen.
Sound Mode – Use Sound Mode when you want to access the additional voices in the CA98, including alternative popular piano sounds from previous Kawai instruments such as the SK-EX piano, SK6 and EX concert piano sounds, as well as strings, organs, choirs, synth sounds, bass voices, harpsichords & electric pianos.
Selecting different voices in the sound mode is very simple: Swipe left/right to select sound or Swipe up/down to select category.
High Quality Onkyo Amplification Technology
To ensure the CA98 delivers the very best possible sound reproduction, Kawai have partnered with Onkyo – a leading Japanese manufacturer of premium audio equipment to incorporate a high quality amplification system in the CA98. The 1-bit DSD Processing increases sound resolution (similar to upscaling on a 4K television) and enhances the depth of tone to give a warmer analogue sound.
Two premium digital-to-analogue convertors decode the left and right channels separately and give the most precise conversion ever seen in a digital piano.
Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry (DIDRC) uses unique filtering technology to eliminate digital-specific noise. This helps to preserve the pianos harmonic character and results in the purest possible sound quality.
Premium Quality Headphone Amp
The CA98 is equipped with a Discrete SprectraModule premium headphone amplifier to give an exquisite experience when practicing piano using earphones. This brand new, unique technology faithfully reproduces the pianos characteristics.
Flagship Speaker System
In addition to the excellent amplification technology found in the CA98, the instrument is equipped with Onkyo developed premium speaker units. These speakers provide low distortion levels and a flat tonal character – just like the monitor speakers used in professional recording studios.
The third generation Twin Drive soundboard speaker uses natural materials to resonate just like an acoustic piano. This new soundboard speaker system uses new transducer units developed by Onkyo to give a broader frequency range and more power/ volume.
Bluetooth Connectivity

Touchscreen User Interface
The CA98 is the first digital piano to feature Kawais new touchscreen user interface. Embedded in the left hand panel of the instrument, this attractive graphical user interface gives a modern, clean look.
