Kawai SR3 electronic organ.

This is a Kawai SR3 electronic organ which was manufactured in the early 1990s. It is in full working order.

When Kawai designed the SR range of organs, Kawai employed Andy Gilbert to advise the design and voice. As a result, this organ has a warm and mellow tone. This is definitely a home organ rather than an orchestral multi keyboard.

The flute / tibia stops are individually selectable at 16,. 5 1/3,. 8, 4, 2 2/3 and 2. It is possible to create some very nice thatre and jazz organ style sounds. Being a Kawai, it also has some useful symphonic string and big band style tones.

There are the usual rhythm and drum features along with easy play features.

I bought this organ not only for its own sound, but also because it has a simple, straightforward MIDI capability.

I connected the Kawai to my Windows computer via MIDI and connected the speaker output of my computer to the Kawai audio input which routes through the Kawai expression pedal. I was then able to use the Kawai to “play” a wide variety of virtual software organs.

The Kawai has worked very well with jOrgan, Hauptwerk, Miditzer, Native Instruments B4, dozens of VSTi, Cubase and many more MIDI enabled softwares.

The Kawai has simple, straightforward MIDI implementation. I had no need for program change, touch response or any rhythm timing triggers etc. All I wanted was simple, Upper keyboard transmission channel 1, lower keyboard on channel 2 and pedals on channel 3. The Kawai has fulfilled that requirement perfectly.

If the MIDI capabilities of this organ are important to you, I have included the MIDI implementation chart in the photographs.

The cabinet is in generally good condition. There are some blemishes and marks from where the organ has been transported in house moves. The original Kawai bench seat is included. The cabinet is a very dark brown.

The Kawai was originally supplied with a memory card to store presets and sequences on. The original memory card was lost a long time ago and is not included. Memory cards are very rarely found on eBay but are as rare as hen’s teeth!

The organ is collection only and cash on collection is preferred. It is located in Flint
