Pleyel Wolff & CieArt Nouveau Marquetry FinishUpright PianoManufactured c.1890 – 1900 (based on its serial number: 105662) by Pleyel in France.
Purchased during the 1930s in London by my great-grandparents in a sale of musical instruments put up for sale by a collector who was emigrating to Australia. The piano has not been played for many years and will need a full restoration to be played or would make an up-cycling project using the Art Nouveau fame. Understandably, with its elegant and ornately beautifully decorated casing, the piano would look amazing in an Edwardian or Arts and Crafts house setting.
Full measurements are available on request.
Collection only from EN2 (Enfield Town) near to Gordon Hill Train Station. Payment after auction ends by PayPal please. Sorry we are unable to deliver.
Condition: The piano has sat in the same family living room for over 60 years and has been looked after. There is the expected general wear and aging to the cabinet with some marking but no major damage (please see the photos to get a clearer idea). The piano has not been played for many years and most of the keys have heavily stiffened up and do not make a sound when pressed/pushed down. So the piano will need a full restoration to be able to be played again. The internal workings of the piano are quite dusty. I have no technical knowledge of the workings so I am unable to give an opinion on any of the working parts. There are no keys for the lock on the keyboard cover (if I do find them I will inform the bidder/buyer). The candlestick holders were removed prior to 1938 (suitable replacements can easily be purchased on eBay). Please note that because of the above reasons the piano is ‘SOLD AS IS’. Lets find a good new home for this piano where it will beused again and appreciated.
