For Sale :- Set Of 61 VERY RARE ‘HARMONIKA’ Organ Pipes (Orchestrion, Flute Organ,Mechanical Organ).
David R Leach (Organ Builder Est 1977 :-I made this set of pipes for a project about 10 years ago, which, shelved due to work load, was never started again. The 61 pipes advertised are NEW, and have been in careful storage over time.
The ‘Harmonika’pipe-type was developed in Germany and widely used in mechanical ORCHESTRION and indoor Flute Organs by the various Black Forest Orchestrion Builders (Welte, Imhof etc) and occasionally in Church Organs too.
The Harmonika pipe, is possibly the most difficult to make of all wooden organ pipes, and gives a soft, pure tone. The pipe mouths are circular, and the windways sloping, both emulating the Orchestral Flute. In the 19th century, these pipes were used as a ‘foundation’ tone and will form the basis for any, low-pressure organ project. If these were made to order today, they would cost about 1500.
Being made for a Mechanical Organ, the pipes run from G 2 2/3′ to g””’ , rather than from ‘C’ which is more usual in Church Organs. These pipes could be used as following :-The lowest 12 Pipes G 2 2/3′ -> F# used to form the ‘Accompaniment’ Section. The next 25 pipes G 1 1/3 -> G 1/3 used for a chromatic, 2 octave ‘Melody Section’.The remaining high trebles could be used as a ‘Picollo’ section or Octave.
The pipes require a wind pressure of at least 30mm wg, and are made from the finest timbers (including Lemon Wood) and finished to perfection. The lowest 3 or 4 pipes have already been cut to slightly over tuning pitch. The rest are all at least 1 semitone too long. You would use the ‘Dead-Length’ tuning method on these which would mean they would stay in tune for a VERY long time.
FREE POSTAGE FOR UK MAINLAND ONLY.
Thankyou for looking :- D Leach
