Rank of Organ Pipes: CONTRA FAGOTTO, 16ft
The organ, rescued from a Hampshire church (which now uses a digital organ) has not played for 30 years since the pneumatics became unreliable. It is by the famous Victorian organ builders GRAY AND DAVISON. This is a spelndid 16ft reed rank on an organ of splendid pipework, as you might expect from this builder.Key compass is 58 notes, and wind pressure is recorded as 3 inches wg.
At the moment I have removed the top 3 octaves of the Fagotto from the organ and brought them home (Yorkshire) to check for any repairs. The bass pipes (full length, but heavily bugled, so the longest pipes are only about 5ft in real length) are still in the swellbox in Hampshire, and in good condition. I intend to visit again during the first week in March, and finish the dismantling of the organ. So these pipes can theoretically be picked up from either place.I have pitched the opening bid of the rank at 900 – probably the mid-point of its value. I have not asked for offers. However, it may be that no offer will be made as high as 900. Possible buyers are therefore welcome to phone me (see final photo) and discuss their needs, and the sum they would pay. I will make a note of every caller, and reply to you. It is probably better to do this than using the Ebay messaging service as I will be away from my computer for quite a lot of the next week.
Note too that the Trombone / Tromba unit from this organ is also being listed on Ebay this week. It is 16ft on the pedals and 8ft on the Great manual; 70 pipes in all
