Rank of Organ Pipes: GEDACKT, 8ft
The organ comes from a Methodist Church in Bradford. Its origins are not certain – possibly built (around 1900) by Fitton and Haley, and certainly restored by them around 1930. The bellows weights are J.J.BINNS (whose firm did soon after amalgamate with Fitton + Haley). Could the original pipework be by Binns? I’m not sure what all this tells us, but I can say that whichever pipemakes their pipes were ordered from, they are very good.
The Gedackt is a lovely Stopped Flute rank. With a little bit of a chiff on the voicing, it is maybe unsurprising that it was titled “Rohr Flute” on the stop knob. But I always think the naming of stops can sometimes be a little dishonest – and this is a typical example, since a Rohr Flute has to have its stoppers pierced, and this rank hasn’t! So a GEDACKT it is, the 8ft flute from a Swell organ.
The bottom 2 octaves of the rank are in stopped wood, good and stout with no sign of splits or leaks. From Middle C upwards the pipes become stopped metal, of reasonably narrow scale.
The wind pressure is around 3 inches, and the manual compass is 61 notes

This rank is too big and heavy to be sent by carrier, so it is “collection only”. I live 5 minutes from Junction 24, M62, so quite easy to access. If a buyer lives in the Midlands or the South, I am intending over the next 3 months to drive to Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Dorset, Warwickshire etc, and could liaise with a buyer – phone me to discuss
Just a footnote: I do get quite a few requests from private contacts outside Ebay. If one of these wants to buy any of my listed ranks of pipes, I would take them off Ebay during a listing and sell them privately. Once a bid has been placed however, I will always leave the listing to run its course. The moral of the story? – If you want an item, place a bid on it sooner rather than at the last minute.
