Rank of Organ Pipes:   GEMSHORN,  4ft
A Gemshorn is a rank of quasi-diapason tone, usually sounding at 4ft pitch in a swell organ. Many Victorian organs included a 4ft principal (a cylindrical pipe) and called it “Gemshorn” on the stop knob. But a proper Gemshorn (like this one!) is conical in construction, smaller in scale at the top, and fatter at the mouth. These pipes are bright and sparky, and combine well with diapasons, flutes and strings. This one sounded very nice and bright when playing in the organ. The fact that the treble pipes of this rank are of Spotted Metal will have something to do with the bright tone.THE ORGAN was in a South Yorkshire church, and built by the Leeds Builder ABBOTT AND SMITH in 1900. The wind pressure is about 3″, and the key compass is 61 notes (C to C). Like most Abbott and Smith pipework, this is well made and of good quality. My details are on the final photo, should you wish to contact me with questionsThis rank is too heavy and vulnerable to be sent by carrier, so it is “collection only”. The pipes at my home in West Yorkshire, just minutes from Junction 24 of the M62.  If you are a bidder in the South of England and find Yorkshire a bit far, please note that at the end of June I shall be in the Cotswolds, Somerset and Devon, and can bring any pipes or parts with us for customersJust a final note:-    Because I have so many other customers, people independent of Ebay, often ask me for a set of pipes or parts while a listing is running. My practice is often to remove the listing for them if there are no bids on the item, but never to remove the listing after a bid has been placed. For this reason if you are interested in any of my organ pipes or parts, I strongly recommend you put a first bid on an item rather than leaving your bidding to the last minute!
