Organ Pipes: RANK OF 42 PEDAL BOURDON PIPES
making a Bourdon 16ft and Bass Flute 8ftplus the two wooden Winchests that support themThis Bourdon comes from a redundant church in the Dudley area of the West Midlands. It consists of 30 wooden pipes and 12 stopped metal ones (the top octave of the Bass Flute rank).Though the biggest pipes look a little tatty, the whole rank is prompt and full enough.It will have been on about 3 inches pressure.The smaller chest and its pipes are all stacked in the organ chamber ready for collection. The 12 biggest bass pipes (on the bigger chest) are still in situ – they simply want lifting off the chest (ground level, easy access), and their chest removed from the floor with 4 screws. It seemed more sensible for us not to unscrew this big chest from the floor, so that the bass pipes would not be in danger of falling over)The chests were on tubular pneumatic action and can easily be electrified with lever-arm magnets (Call me if you need some cheap secondhand ones).Obviously this is a “collection in person”. Everything can be carried by a single person, but the longest pipe will be about 9-10ft long, so borrow a longish van!I live 130 miles away in West Yorkshire, so will put the buyer in touch with the church trustees (very friendly) who will open the building for you. I bought the rest of the organ, though the 2 soundboards for Great and Swell, the stool, 2 sets of bellows (one very small) the 2 tracker keyboards, and all of the mechanical action are still in situ if anyone wants them.
