Rippen Upright Piano – 1984 Mahogany Veneer. Bought new (for quite alot of money by today’s standards) by my parents for me to learn on as a boy. Has a few knocks, paint spots and imperfections as you would expect for the age but theres nothing too terrible and most would probably disappear with a little work. I have heard that these were retailed at Harrods etc so that gives an idea of the quality. This one was bought from a piano shop in Hutton, Essex that has probably long gone.

The internals are in generally good order – depending on the humidity there can sometimes be a slightly sticky key here or there and it doesnt sound quite as clear as it once did but it plays fairly well still – but does need a tune and proper check over by someone knowledgeable really. The mute pedal also does not seem to want to catch and stay on so has to be held down if needed – possibly an easy fix?

It sounds a little bit like an old pub piano at the moment rather than the decent instrument it really is. It used to sound very good indeed but a house move and less than perfect environmental conditions in storage led to the issues listed above – I am fairly sure it could be made to sound wonderful again with a bit of work by a professional. We also don’t have the right space available in the house so time has come to let it go (reluctantly for sentimental reasons). Having said all that, it could be used as is if you aren’t fussy about tuning etc.

Is for collection only and will need to be removed by the buyer. Would need a few strong men and or women to move. Is on the ground floor but there are a couple of sets of 3 steps up and down to get it out. There is access for a large van or small lorry at a push but it is a steep driveway. To give an idea – it was brought in initially by 2 professional removals men with a bit of help from me and my dad but we are both not as fit as we were so ideally it would need 3 or 4 people to come and help (to make it easy as possible).
