Background and Reason for SaleI’m a classically trained pianist, piano teacher and songwriter. This has been my ‘home studio’ and ‘gig’ piano for many years. It has served as a brilliant substitute for an acoustic piano. House move forces sale otherwise, I would keep it! It’s a little scuffed now, hence the lower price. But it’s fully functional with an excellent feel and sound compared to other newer stage pianos of a similar price.
Weight and TouchAn excellent digital stage piano with a graded, fully weighted keyboard, meaning that the left-hand notes are heavier than the right, with a progressive change throughout. So, it has a really realistic touch.
SoundThe in-built piano sound is good and clean. The ‘bright>mellow’ setting is especially useful. There are also around 50 other on-board instruments, many of which are great, such as the organ (with optional ‘rotary’ settings’) and electric piano. It has audio input and output, for amplification or recording. Onboard speakers can be switched on or off. I’ve found they’re useful at gigs as a monitor.
Portability and Live performance
Comes with a study padded carry case, which makes it very easy to transport. Fits in the back of a hatchback. Can be carried by two people or one stronger person! The stand that comes with this is more suitable for home use, because it’s one solid piece, which you can get your legs under and sit at comfortably. I am also separately selling a Giraffe double-X frame, which I used live – it can be folded down so fits in the car more easily. If you’d like to buy the other stand, I’m happy to discuss this.
RecordingThe FP5 is a great addition to a home studio setup, with full USB Midi capability. In order to work on the current Mac OS you need a USB MIDI Interface, such as the Roland UM-ONEMK2. I’ve used this piano as a MIDI controller for years – it’s great to have such a ‘pianistic’ instrument for recording.
Other FeaturesThe FP5 also has a metronome, which can play in different time signatures and tempi and with a volume control which is independent of the actual piano. It has a two-track memory which I’ve found really handy when sketching out compositions. You can record in at a very slow tempo and playback at a faster tempo, for example. (Just beware, when the power switches off, the on-board memory is wiped!).
All in all a great instrument, which has been very good to me! I hope it finds a new owner who can be good to IT!
