This particular Roland comes with a full Kenton Midi Retrofit which makes it eminently usable for recording, slaving/ or controlling with your master studio control keyboard. It’s now ready to go to a good home and be used creatively again.
In the days before Mac’s were really acceptably useable for dance music we used the venerable Atari’s 520’s, 1040’s Hadies even! The timing was always better on our Atari’s anyway)
Therefore we midi’d so many of our keys and drum boxes. The Midi retrofit on all our keyboards was carried out at my behest by John Price the Kenton midi guru in 1994 He serviced and maintained all our many Beatfarm classic keyboards and this is one of them. I have tested all functions and this keyboard still works perfectly both in all standard issue functions and all Kenton Midi retrofit functions. (The Midi takes over by the flip of the toggle switch)
The red button shown in the photo’s is for changing midi receive channels.Method is to depress the red button and depress the relevant midi channel key on the keyboard)
We used to have so many classic midi retrofitted keyboards all running off a complex Midi system that punters and engineers may have got confused about which channel our midi map was addressing when using this commercial studio so we dedicated certain keyboards to particular midi channels. The midi Chanel on this baby can still be changed with the point of a pencil or whatever however..The reason the knob top has been filed off is because all accessible all at the same time, interfaced to a Unitor in Clab or a Steinberg Cubase. either ran from an Atari mega 4 and the timing and feeling was awesome as can be heard from some of the amazing sounding vinyl records we produced back in those heady days from 1989 to 1998
The keyboard is in excellent condition with minor wear consistent with it’s age. It all plays and functions fully and perfectly. It comes with the original hardcase (pictured) Also comes with stable 240 volt mains adapter power supply (not shown)
This particular SH101 is responsible for many major dance hit recordings from the 90’s that were produced and mixed at The legendary Beat Farm recording studios London.
Responsible for countless charting and famous 12 inch remixes and ground breaking techno, house, trance/ dance music hit records during the 1990’s
The Beat Farm Studio using this Keyboard was responsible for hits by: Positiva, Hoog Choons, Tall Paul, React, Truelove, Danny Rampling, Judge Jules, Lush, Truelove, Cooking Vinyl, Creation, Eruption, Rising High etc etc
Anyway, I’m sad to let go of this baby but glad to think it can still do more beautiful damage.
The Midi is obviously a bonus for some of you..
