Roland VP550 Vocal, Ensemble & Vocoder Keyboard – Rare. So rare that in the last 3 years on eBay I’ve only ever seen one other of these listed, and that was withdrawn 2 days into the auction!
This keyboard was Roland’s mid 2000’s attempt to provide a vocoder, harmoniser and complimenting ensemble keyboard sounds in one small package. It was billed as ‘the keyboard for outfits that couldn’t afford their own choir’……. big claim but it doesn’t do a bad job in the right hands, as Don Lewis can prove (check out his demo on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHd_U00q3vo). It has some basic ensemble string and voice sounds, as well as a Vocal Designer section with two very usable Vocoder presets that really come to life when routing other instruments through that section, which was always the star attraction of this keyboard for me.
Very well loved – I’ve had this for 10 years and am only selling because I have a V-Synth with the VC2 vocal card (which is what the VP550 is modelled on) and a Vocoder function on one of my other keyboards as well. I have too much stuff really……
This one has been well looked after, and condition is really good. All dials, buttons and connectors work as they should.
Sold with a mains power cable and the tatty rack case that’s in the final photos, but the latter is being used more as extra padding for safe postage as I feel it’s currently in the sort of state that I’d be paying someone to take it away rather than receiving money for it. Judge for yourself!
