I guess this is where I ‘sell’the VR-09, but to be honest I couldn’t improve on the following review from Sweetwater.

Other than to say it’s a real joy to play and there are so many options, from sweet guitars through organs to (?) bagpipes…

Will supply in its own wheeled case (not the soft case shown, that belongs to my Korg).

VR09 includes a manual and the transformer. Collection preferred  but talk with me…

Value is an understatement

Just got this about a week ago, it is basically an alternative or rather a replacement for my Kurzweil K2000. I’ve just been noodling around with it and exploring the sounds for about 2 hours each on 2 different occasions. One of the best laid out and easy access to sounds keyboards I’ve experienced. Having separate buttons dedicated to organ, piano, strings, synths, sfx, percussion etc is the best. Click on a selection and scroll through the sounds. To add to performance I really like the feel of the keyboard. It is very quick and reminiscent of our old Hammond L-102.

Having separate controls for basic effects like overdrive, rotary, verb and delay is extremely helpful and makes playing so easy without stopping to tweak effect presets on a sound.

The three organs sound great. You only need three, because of the drawbars that are surprisingly accurate in their shaping of the sound. Add in sfx of keyclick and adjustable attack percussion of normal, soft and fast decay adds well to the realism. The rotary and overdrive sound great and Roland’s unique Pitch/Mod lever makes the rotary fast/slow and break a snap to execute. Jazz organ, rock organ and transistor (Farfisa?)

There’s more than enough other sounds to fullfill all my other needs along with some classic Roland sounds, the old general midi type sounds and even a rhythm player/looper that can record and has some basic drum and drum/bass presets for jamming alone. Some of the sound effects were quite amusing, from footsteps, sirens, a woman screaming, a man being punched and a number of other sounds all in one preset spread across the keyboard.

Within 15 minutes I was finding inspiration for new songs and music to create. At 12 lbs and for the price this is one of the best “bangs for the buck” I’ve ever gotten and I haven’t even delved into shaping the synth sounds yet, trying splits and combos or the numerous effects under the global EFX parameter or the D-Beam. I stopped short of giving this 5 stars, because I know somewhere down the line I might just find something wrong. Then again, maybe not.
