This “Centennial” Grand was developed by Steinway to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of ” Independence of America ” !
A true historical instrument with a lot of history!Don’t miss this one of the kind opportunity to hunt a very, very rare Steinway!
Steinway developed this Grand Piano especially for the largest and first international US World fair in the 19.th. century, held in Philadelphia with a limited edition of 424 Steinway Grands ever build for that event. Only a view of these original “Centennials” have been survived. Some experts talk about 80 real “Centennials” or less are leftover.
Here you have the opportunity to claim one.Regarding the Serial No 35806, our Steinway Centennial was shipped to Steinway & Sons of London on February 4, 1878 One “Centennial” stays and is exhibited in the US Pentagon

Condition:
The body is made by very rare rosewood (imported at this time in 1867 th. from Brasil) Top condition nearly as new with some markes of time…(Steinway New York term: “Style 4 Rosewood”)
88 keys at all, 52 originally Ivory keys and 36 black ebony wood keys in top condition.
Strings: Original and in a remarkable good playable substance.(Please note, these strings have made at this time by steal! )
The soundboard is in a remarkably good condition, never repaired or touched.
The piano harp has some spots of age but does not need a restoration because it is in a very, very good condition.
IMPORTANT !This grand is at this moment not playable. The complete wooden mechanical parts have to replaced by original Steinway parts if you want to play this treasure. This is quite some issue for our sale, but absolutely not a problem to fix it.
Steinway can deliver and offer still for this instrument the parts to renew it.To be clear, the mechanical parts has to be replaced, action parts, hammers a.s.o.(Expect some extra invest of around 10000 to 15000 Euro) to do that.(We have the old mechanic inside and this is not working anymore. It is not the original Steinway Mechanic spare parts anyway…)
Further, there is one of the 3 pedals not active, this has to be rebuilt too, if there is a need for.

Length: 274 cm / 107.87 inch(Please note, the records of the New York Steinway factory regarding the Serial No. told us, this Steinway has a length of 263 cm / 103.54 inch, but our measurement result is in fact 274 cm ….)Height: 100 cm / 39.37 inch (closed) Width: 146 cm / 57.48 inch
Net weight (According Steinway New York) : 506 kg / 1,115 lbs
Sound: Because of the long size, the remarkable rosewood body and the original metal steal stings you can expect some dream of sound, not to compare with a new Steinway & Sons Grand D’s
To point it out, this grand D has still the extreamly rare original metal strings from 1878. UNREPLACABLE and these strings are in an absolutely Top condition with some unbeatable deap bass sound. Not to compare with some later copper strings with total other sound effect!
We would be happy if this extraordinary instrument gets into someone’s hands to bring it in life again to let the remarkable sound alive prefering this to see this in some museum.
