A very rare opportunity to purchase an iconic 1973 vintage Mellotron M400S (serial number 1335) which was fully restored by Streetly Electronics the world experts on Mellotrons. The company is run by the son of the original owner of the Mellotronic factory in Birmingham. http://www.mellotronics.com/
In really outstanding condition considering it’s nearly 50 years old! It’s been extremely well looked after in recent years since being restored. Everything works as it should and the analogue tape sound is just amazing. This was basically the first sampler.
There are a few minor marks in the paintwork as you’d expect but nothing serious that you wouldn’t count as normal patina for it’s age. These are rarely for sale especially in this kind of amazing condition. Only 1800 were ever made.
Comes complete with the original BBS (Bradley Brothers Standard) tape set of Flue/Violins/Cello. The flutes we famously used on The Beatles Strawberry Fields and the Mellotron has featured on countless records by artists like Genesis, Tangerine Dream, Yes, The Moody Blues and still does. The strings and cellos are just sublime and all the sounds were specially recorded for the Mellotron back in the late 60’s/early 70’s.
Has been converted to use a modern IEC mains lead when restored and can be used in many different countries as it has a voltage selector for 240/220/110 volts and also includes 1/4″ line out socket and a 1/4″ socket for a volume pedal.
Cabinet, chasis, power supply and other parts are marked several times with 1335 serial number.
Includes a copy of the original owners manual, power lead and the feet which aren’t fitted in the photo’s but which easily bolt on to the bottom of the cabinet. The owners manual has lots of information about setting up and maintaining the Mellotron as well as many usueful schematics.
