Upright piano, painted coloured deep red antique Gors & Kellmann German make.
This piano is a beautiful deep red with gold lettering and a gold scrolled pattern in the front. It is full of exotic character, and a really quirky, unusual and attractive item.
This piano is 114 years old. It was made in Germany between 1904 and 1908 by R Gors and Kallmann. Although it was made in Germany it was sold in South Africa by Mackay Bros & Mc Mahon. These were the sole agents for the Natal province of South Africa. This was probably shipped over by a wealthy colonial family.
The origins of the Gors & Kallmann name go back to Berlin in the late 19th Century, since then it has been synonymous with large, traditional style, upright pianos, with a characteristic deep, sonorous bass response. The modern Gors & Kallmann is designed to be redolent of those earlier instruments from the golden age of the piano.
The serial number on this piano, located inside the top cover is 34628.
This piano has several scratches and dents, and the paint has worn off in some places around the hinges (see photos) as you would expect from its age. I’m not sure what the keys are made from. Also the piano would have to be tuned after it is moved as the process of moving it will cause it to become out of tune.
This is a very heavy item. There are companies who will move pianos.
Any questions please ask.
