The Bsendorfer BackstoryIgnaz Bsendorfer began his career as an apprentice to renowned piano-maker, Joseph Brodmann, eventually taking over the firm in 1828 upon Brodmanns retirement.By 1838 Bsendorfer became famous overnight following a concert from composer Franz Liszt who enjoyed the robustness of the Bsendorfer Grand, which could withstand his passionate playing due to its quality crafting.Ignaz Bsendorfer later educated his son Ludwig who went on to win an award for his Patent Grand and Ludwigs stunningly designed pianos found fame all over the world, being exported to Rio, Tokyo, Stockholm, as well as other destinations.Since Ludwig Bsendorfer had no children, the company changed hands several times over the years; Hutterstrasser took over the factory in 1909, Kimball acquired it in 1966 and they later sold it to the Austrian BAWAG-PSK Group in 2001.Finally, in 2008 Japanese brand Yamaha became the financial backers for Bsendorfer , keeping it as a separate Austrian company so as to remain faithful to its heritage. All Bsendorfer Grands are hand-crafted in Wiener Neustadt, near Vienna with Yamaha working closely with them to sell and distribute the instruments.
