Vintage John Broadwood & Sons (A quality recognised maker) Upright Piano for RESTORATION.
We bought it for our daughter about ten years ago from Grantham Piano Services, Yelverton. It was (obviously, given the fact that it’s probably 100 years old) pre-owned then, but they had refurbished and tuned it.
That was TEN years ago !!
Now, it needs some work again, it’s been well played (and loved) by the whole family – from beginner to Grade VIII and is now showing its age.
Here are (some of) its issues (see photos):
Some (approx. nine) of the piano key tops, that were a part of the original refurbishment, are now missing ;
Some of the keys are sticking – slow to return;
Some of the keys are stained;
It needs tuning and
The woodwork needs TLC (and was sat beneath a recent redecoration of our hall!). There is the odd scar/dint to the woodwork and could do with a polish.
Nevertheless, this is a good, vintage metal framed piano that should be made to “sing” again. [It does still play, it’s just doesn’t sound anywhere near as rich/crisp as it used to and sometimes some of the keys don’t return at a speed that is ideal].
Sadly (to our daughter’s dismay), we’re selling it to move (from Devon) to Shetland and, apart from the issues of transporting it 830+ miles (and a 12 hour ferry ride), we are going to invest in a grand piano when we get there !
