Yamaha CVP-609GP in immaculate condition. One owner from new, and used only in a smoke and pet-free home environment. This is one of the finest digital pianos you can buy. Only a small number of the GP models were made, compared to the standard version.
The action is fantastic, using a fully weighted, 88 note keyboard with everything an amateur or learner needs, and also suits small venues as a very versatile static performance tool. The sound is beautiful, whether through the internal speakers, headphones or external amplifiers. It also looks great as a statement piece of furniture in the home or venue, with the advantage of being perfectly usable in apartments or homes late at night without disturbing the neighbours. This piano has everything in the already great CVP-609, but puts it into a grand-piano style case which houses top quality speakers housed in an wooden sound board for the finest sound.
The piano was recently serviced by Yamaha (June 2019), with the main control boards upgraded to the latest versions and a full set of new contact strips installed, which puts it back into the state of being as good as it was when new. There was a fault acknowledged by Yamaha in the CVP609 series causing problems with playback as the contact strips started to wear which required upgraded circuit boards, firmware and contact strips, performed under warranty by Yamaha – it is worth checking that any CVP-609 piano you buy has this upgrade, and has new contact strips.

The Clavinova NW (Natural Wood) keyboard could only be made by Yamaha, with woodworking techniques perfected from over a century of building fine acoustic pianos. Like a grand piano, the keys are made of solid wood that has undergone the long drying process required for use in a musical instrument. By selecting only the highest quality sections of each piece of wood, keys that are more resistant to warping and deforming than those of laminated wooden keyboards are created. The keys have three sensors, like the GH3 keyboard, that amplify sensitivity to the pianist playing them. 88-key Linear Graded Hammers reproduce a unique weight for each key, a first for digital pianos.
Each key in the Clavinova keyboard has a unique weight. On a traditional acoustic piano, the strings are short and narrow in the treble section and get progressively thicker and longer in the bass section. To produce an even sound, the hammers hitting the keys become larger from low to high. Thanks to the 88-key Linear Graded Hammers, this is the first digital piano to precisely recreate the keyboard touch of a grand piano where the weight, touch and return of every key is different. Since the experience is extremely close to that of a grand piano, you can achieve better playing technique.
The GP Response Damper Pedal provides an authentic grand piano pedal feel.
The damper pedal is an important piano-playing element because it continuously varies the sound as you press it down. The Clavinova provides acoustic piano behavior by constantly detecting the amount of pedal travel and finely adjusting the amount of note elongation and reverberation. Additionally, the GP Response Damper Pedal reproduces the typical grand piano feeling, for example less resistance when starting to press and a heavy feeling when the pedal begins to take effect. As a result, players achieve greater control when operating the damper pedal.
Piano Room: your choice of piano and location.
The CVP-609 offers a great new feature called Piano Room that you can use when you really want to concentrate on piano performance and savor the piano sound. You can select from among four types of pianos – grand, pop grand, upright and honky-tonk – and also a playing location, such as concert hall, cathedral or stage. Instantly, the tone quality changes to match that piano and place, giving your performance a totally different feel. When youre playing the grand piano or pop grand, you can even choose to have the virtual piano lid open or closed.

Volume adjustment is convenient for playing at home, where sometimes others may prefer you to play softly. Youve probably experienced the fact that when the volume is low, it is difficult to hear treble and bass. On a Clavinova, however, the Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC) automatically adjusts the sound, so you enjoy proper sound balance even at low volumes.
