The Yamaha DX21 Synthesizer is a member of the FM synthesis family produced by Yamaha in the mid eighties and heard on a number of tracks by famous artists at the time and since. Mine dates from around the late eighties and I’ve had it from new, thus why I still have the original manuals and the box it came in.

For those that don’t know, it has up to 8 note polyphony and produces sound using two FM tone generators, 4 oscillators with 32 user voices and 128 voices held in memory. Being programmable you can obviously make up and store your own voices. It has 61 keys which are not weighted or capable of generating velocity or aftertouch. It will however respond over MIDI to velocity and aftertouch data though so don’t let that put you off if you have a controller of some sort. There are also pitch and modulation wheels to allow real time sound alterations during performance. If you want to know more about it, a quick online search will provide you with all that you might want to know in addition.

The synth has been languishing in it’s box for quite some time now as I no longer use it but I have plugged some headphones into the socket and checked all of the keys, buttons, wheels and display and they all worked. Yamaha know how to build reliability into their gear!

As well as the manuals, there is also a clip on music stand in the box so if you read music you can use that. I never did so it’s virtually unscathed.

Being a robustly constructed device, it’s quite heavy at around 18lbs so sending by courier might be quite expensive and although the packaging is quite sturdy too I would recommend collection in person from NG5 9BL if possible. The box itself is larger than eBay’s providers allow quotes for so it would have to be an individual quotation. I would also consider bringing it to you at the right price in say a 50 mile radius so feel free to ask what I’d charge. It would have to be payment up front before I set off though!

I hope that I’ve covered off the main points but let me know if you have any other questions.
