An excellent grand piano – equivalent to a C1 – and suitable for all players to the most advanced. The G series was the top of the range Yamaha pianos. It is 5ft 3 inches and was built in the Hamamatsu factory in Japan. It has made in Japan and supplied by Chappells labels underneath. This is the updated 1990 piano as it has the key lock and full Sostenuto. Thus making it the exact equivalent of the later C1 – the key bed is made from solid wood planks, and not chipboard as in later cheaper pianos such as the GA1, GB1 and GC1. This is the real deal, Japanese crafted, professional level piano.
The soundboard is perfect and it tunes easily and holds the tuning as you would expect from an instrument that costs nearly 30,000 new! The keys are in perfect condition with no damage or scratches.
It has a full sostenuto pedal for performing the music of Rachmaninov and Ravel.
This piano was made in 1990 and sold to its only owner by Chappells of Bond Street. It has hardly been played, and feels like a new Piano.
The action is like new and the touch is as you would expect from a nearly new, unused, Yamaha G1. It has a firm touch and a rich sonority – a better sound than you might imagine from a small grand piano.
The case has a few small marks but nothing that detracts from the overall beauty of this piano. The legs have the usual marks probably caused by an over zealous hoover. There are light scratches on the lid but they are superficial and dont penetrate the lacquer. Small chips to the lacquer in places but I dont think they are noticeable unless you look for them.
The diskclavier system works, but is untested since 2009. It is the floppy disk system and comes with the full control wagon. It does not affect the way the piano plays and could, but doesnt need to be, removed.
