Yamaha SHS-10 (R) – red 1980s keytarWorking condition, complete

Original 1980s Yamaha SHS-10 keytar in less-common red finish, in good working order. Carefully checked and cleaned after storage, and tested with fresh batteries.

All keys are working and responsive, the pitch bend wheel works, all the buttons are undamaged and respond well, the LED display works and the speaker works.

Power switch is positive and reliable, volume control works. All modes work, including the quirky “Baroque” rhythm style that sequences chords, but doesn’t make a drum pattern.

This lightweight and authentically ’80s controller is a bright and vibrant red with a few marks in the plastic and on a couple of the black keys, to be expected on a used instrument that’s 32 years old. Key response – no velocity or aftertouch here – is fast, with the 32 mini keys well suited to playing wide intervals or just smaller hands. You can transpose, pitch bend, add vibrato, play portamento and sustain notes with controls for the left hand – all of these work, though portamento would need different MIDI commands for different setups.

MIDI output – on old-school 5-pin DIN – works well, and can be assigned to different channels. I’ve tested this with Cubase and controlling the MoroderNova I have for sale.

I haven’t tested the PSU input as I don’t have an appropriate PA1 or PA4 unit; it requires 9V, centre positive.

I can include a PDF copy of the manual.

It will be well packed for postage, in a box somewhat larger than the keytar to provide protection if your courier isn’t particularly careful. You can collect in person if you’d prefer.
